Sleep Stack
Getting to sleep
The Supplement gathers insights from biohackers, experts, and scientific research to craft straightforward health stacks to add to your daily routines. Please do your own research on top of the following and consult with healthcare professionals before significantly changing your diet or lifestyle.
The Stack
There are a few different ways of looking at a sleep stack. This particular one was made popular by Andrew Huberman and targets the beginning of the sleep cycle. The feedback has been strong on this stack, with a few caveats around the use of theanine - so make sure you take this into account.
How it works
Magnesium l’threonate combined with theanine and apigenin collectively work to calm the brain, reduce frontal lobe activity associated with thinking and relax the nervous system. With this stack, theanine is not necessarily essential as the other two might work perfectly without an additional supplement added to the mix. Start off using magnesium and apigenin first to see how this affects your sleep, then if need be, add in the theanine later. Those who have night terrors or sleepwalk should not take theanine.
The Dosage
The dosage is a guideline based on expert opinions and daily recommendations. The brand suggestion is based on the cleanest brands providing the closest dosage available in the UK.
Magnesium L-Threonate
Background: L-threonate is one of the many forms of magnesium available and is specifically proven to cross the blood-brain barrier, hence its impact on sleep.
Dosage: 145mg
Brand suggestion: Life Extension
Caveat: Magnesium can cause an agitated stomach to a small portion of those who take it.
Theanine
Background: Theanine is an amino acid found in green tea.
Dosage: 200-400mg
Brand suggestion: Time Health
Caveat: Do not take Theanine if you have night terrors or sleepwalk. This step of the stack is a bonus addition, on top of the other two, therefore, it could be passed if you see the other two steps work well for you.
Apigenin
Background: Apigenin is the flavonoid in chamomile.
Dosage: 50mg
Brand suggestion: Time Health
Keep in mind all of our bodies are unique and may respond differently to others. When you try a new stack, monitor the impact it has, and evaluate if it is working for you. These stacks are pulled from experts in the field, but this doesn’t mean they will always suit you. As always, do your research and consult with healthcare professionals before making significant changes to your diet or lifestyle.
